a couple trips , yep a couple trips

So it is all good, but a little confusing. We have been working on flights and travel plans for the last 24 hours. And what we have come up with is not ideal but I am sure God had his hand in it. My mom and I are still going on this Monday for our last visit trip. She used all her flight miles . . so the flights are free!!! We will be there almost a full week and then come back, yes without Lucia. One more hand off, but Aaron and I will be back in less than a week for a quick pick up trip. I just couldn't stay through from the visit trip to the pick up trip away from the boys that long. It would be way too hard on them and I think make a rough transition when Lucia comes home. They really understand "how many days" and count them over and over and mark them off when we are gone.

On this first trip I am praying God will bless our focused time with her. I am hoping I really bond and learn all about her - eating, schedule, sleeping, clothes size so we will be completely prepared on the pick up trip. She will reunite with her foster family so they can have one last goodbye week. Maybe that was God's plan.

The pick up trip takes a total of 4 days - arrival, embassy appointment, visa delivery, and fly home. So Lucia will touch done here on January 31st at 7:00pm. More waiting , but the good kind of waiting there is a clear end in sight.
I was going through my day planner yesterday with delight looking througth the coming weeks and months and everything Lucia is going to be a part of with our family. I used to look through and be upset about everything she was missing with our family. If you know me very well you know I LOVE day planners. It is something about calendars they are so organized and I love writing in the little boxes and making schedules. I know it is wierd. But I do know of one other friend who loves this too, but she has an iPhone now and she loves her planner even more. I love this friend and she is not weird at all!
I will of course posts lots of pics on our trip next week. I cannot wait to see her.
Thanks for all the great comments and emails. We have felt so loved and supported through this entire process. And I will add a few pics of the nursery with some last finishing touches.
Hey, I need some some good books for the plane and airport sitting in my next few weeks. Any suggestions?

Hey Darcy, ever read Sheldon VanAucken's "A Severe Mercy?" Great read. Great! Rob and Robi talk about this one quite frequently when the topic of must-reads comes up and it is definitely in the top five faves for BOTH Ken & I. We have it & you can borrow it if ya want; I'lll bring it to church in case you're interested. Also, Frederich Douglass' "My Bondage and My Freedom" is outstanding. We also have this one... so I'll bring both in case either sound appealing or you just want options. What kinds of books do you like?

Hi Darcy,

My suggestion is "The Medici Seal". Great read, with a great mystery (easy, beach read kinda stuff....nothing heavy). Got me through my trip in Jordan.

Hang in there. Know these few weeks will be hard, but your heart and mind are in the right place. Everything is as it should be...

P.s. from the other day...bottom line: you are the boys biggest advocate. Go into that principal, buy lattes for the secretaries, and do anything you possibly can to make sure your kids are where you KNOW is best for them. It may not work, but at least you know you advocated for them, and everything from there on out is workable.

Safe travels.

Did someone ask for book suggestions?!? Are you kidding?!? Oh Dara, I love you for asking that question.

So lemme think... I'm not entirely sure what sorts of books you like to read, but here are some varied ideas:

Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (Haddon)
Lying Awake (Salzman)
The Awakening (Chopin)
Everything Is Illuminated (Foer)
Assassination Vacation (Vowell)
A Prayer for Owen Meany (Irving)
Wuthering Heights (Bronte)
Angelhead (Bottoms)
Breakfast of Champions (Vonnegut)
...and, of course, anything by Tolkien.

P.S. Patty--I LOVE Pillars of the Earth. Great suggestion!

Darc! Did you read "Eat, Pray, Love" yet? I'm still in the middle of it. I'd have to agree with my mom and Bryan though, "Pillars of the Earth" is pretty amazing (and it'll last you a while!) I also loved "The Poisonwood Bible." I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET LUCIA!!!!

P.S. Am I the crazy iPhone calendar friend?!? :)

Okay, getting Lucia home and all is just great . . . but what I'm truly most excited about is that you actually have some BON JOVI on your blog! I'm impressed!! Add a little VH, lose the Cold Play, and you're good to go!

You know I'm kidding, right? (well, I was kidding about Bon Jovi being more important than Lucia, but not about me being impressed to see Bon Jovi on your blog). You know I'm over-the-moon-happy for you and can't wait to meet the little sweetie, right?

Have a wonderful, safe trip and post lots of pictures. Oh, and The Kite Runner is one of the best reads ever as well as The Time Traveler's Wife. But I suppose you're set already.

Next time I see you, you'll have another kid. A baby girl. Wow. Wow!! WOW!!!
Love you! ~Carla

Congrats on Pink and your trips. I am so happy you will have your little girl home so soon. I am very glad you left a comment on our blog. I actually spent quite a bit of time last night trying to find your blog on the forum. I could not find it. I could not remember your name, but I had read your blog several times early in our process. I was wondering how thingswere going for you. I remember reading that you hoped that you would be in PGN by the time your little girl was 3 months old. I had also hoped for that. Our little Hannah is just over 3 months and ready to enter PGN as soon as they are back up and running. Congrats again and good luck!
